Mixing your Flexi Tank

Guidelines for Stirring Tank Contents

First step in solid management is prevention - Start with regular cleaning and maintenance of your sand traps and sumps. Once these are under control, it becomes much easier to implement effective stirring practices.

We recommend regular stirring using the mixing valves on all sides of the tank and the mixing ports on top of the tank. Incorporating this into your routine maintenance, offers several key benefits:

  • Reduces Solids and Sludge Buildup: Prevents accumulation, ensuring consistent tank performance.

  • Prevents Crusting: Stops floating matter from forming a crust, promoting smooth operation.

  • Enhances Nutrient Distribution: Delivers uniform nutrient application during irrigation.

  • Maintains Tank Capacity: Avoids capacity loss due to excessive buildup.

  • Keeps Effluent as a Slurry: Maintains a consistent, manageable slurry for easy handling.

Using Proper Equipment and Best Practices

  • Tractor PTO pumps are ideal for mixing, as they can move large volumes at high pressure for quick results.

  • Use a minimum 3m flexible hose when connecting to stirring valves to avoid stress on the tank. Ideal stirring is when tank is 1/2 - 3/4 full.

  • Employ a strong PTO pump or similar equipment for mixing before or during irrigation.

  • Stir through the top ports to effectively break up floating matter.

  • Stir at least once every 3-6 months to maintain consistency.

  • Combine stirring and irrigation for optimal results.

  • If end/side valves are pointing down dig around the ground to make it level and have the hose supported so they are square onto the tank.

  • Avoid letting tank contents sit for long periods, as this allows suspended solids to settle.

Safety Note - Agitation may release hazardous gases (e.g., methane). Always ensure proper ventilation and follow health and safety protocols.
